How do you feel about having an FM Chip in Cellphones?
Radio Stations already stream programming online and use apps
Cellphones are the future - Radio is "over"
Radio doesn't need an FM Chip on Cellphones
I want Radio in my car with big speakers & powerful amps...not in ear-buds
It's a bargaining chip that NAB will deal away for something more important

Lady A Returns To Soundscan COUNTRY #1
Album Sales Soft - Average Age Of Albums Continues To Soar!

Lady Antebellum's Need You Now returned to the top position of the Nielsen SoundScan COUNTRY Top 75 this week pushing another nearly 25,000-units. The album has spent 25 of the 26 weeks of its life at #1 and has, thus far, sold nearly 2.5-million units.

Easily the most consistent-selling album in modern COUNTRY history, the Zac Brown Band's Foundation does what it has for most of the 88-weeks since its release: sell 20,000+ units.

Jerrod Niemann's Judge Jerrod & The Hung Jury, which displaced Lady A at #1 last week, settled back #3 with respectable sales of more than 17,000-units.

The Soundscan COUNTRY Top 10

  1. Lady Antebellum/Need You Now (24,788)
  2. Zac Brown Band/Foundation (20,119)
  3. Jerrod Niemann/Judge Jerrod & The Hung Jury (17,730)
  4. Miranda Lambert/Revolution (12,811)
  5. Carrie Underwood/Play On (10,477)
  6. Taylor Swift/Fearless (9.014)
  7. Dierks Bentley/Up On The Ridge (8,277)
  8. Jaron & The Long Road To Love/Getting Dressed In The Dark (8,125)
  9. Luke Bryan/Doin' My Thing (6.070)
  10. Brad Paisley/American Saturday Night (5,677)

Overall, Album sales continue to be soft: 258,950 total units sold last week, down 8% from the previous soft week. The average age of the Top 10-sellers is 39.7-weeks, which is about to change beginning in early August when well over a dozen new albums will release before mid-November--including new projects from Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band.

A Sea-Change For Country In Columbia
At Noon Friday, WWNU Leaves COUNTRY - Tries AC

It's been a crazy ride for WWNU-New 92/Columbia, SC and at Noon tomorrow (7/30), that ride takes a new course as the station drops COUNTRY and gives AC a try.

The Class C3 FM, licensed to Irmo, SC--about 20-miles west of Columbia, shoots out 15,000-watts at 427-feet above average terrain, which is only enough to cover about 75% of the Columbia metro with a primary signal.

Nonetheless, the station has made valiant efforts to win, including enticing market veteran Ed James, who'd spent a decade with crosstown 97.5 WCOS, to join them as Ops Manager last October.

Ed is now actively looking for his next assignment. Reach him at 803.634.5470 or this email address.

Jimmy Wayne Celebrates Saturday Near Phoenix
His 1700-Mile Walk Concludes This Weekend

It began on New Year's Day nearly 1700 miles ago, on one of the coldest winters on record, and continued through Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico with hailstorms, tornadoes, severe rain and flooding and then triple digit temperatures all along the way.

Jimmy Wayne, has, for all intents and purposes, reached his end goal--Phoenix.

He tells us, “This has been one of the most challenging, and at the same time rewarding experiences of my life. I know that might sound strange, but it’s true. This journey has made me think back on the childhood I had – there were many nights I didn’t know where I would sleep, and had no idea if I’d have any food.

"Even today, there are kids out there facing the same problems—nowhere to go, no one to care for them. It’s just amazing that, in this country, child homelessness and hunger are still issues."

His Meet Me Halfway campaign arrives in the Phoenix area Saturday (7/31) with some big festivities planned.

  • Saturday (7/31) - FREE Concert At Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill/Mesa
  • Sunday (8/1) - Jimmy and supporters will walk the last mile to Homebase Youth Services/Phoenix.
  • One last thought from Jimmy: "If this walk has helped even one child find a permanent home with a caring family, it’s been worth every step. And if me doing it all over again would help another, I’m ready.”

For more info on the final days of Jimmy's long trek, click here.
